40 Days of Smallmouth

Last summer Tim Holschlag took what is probably the longest smallmouth road trip in history-- a 40-day, 5,000-mile, 12-state, 27-river journey across the smallmouth bass' native range.

Before this trip, Tim had already fished more smallmouth water than any known angler (over 260 different streams and 100 lakes). But for a true smallmouth fanatic like Tim, it's never enough. Loading up his tackle and one of his canoes, he headed cross-country. From the Mississippi River all the way to the Atlantic Ocean and back, Tim fished with many different local anglers on a great variety of waters-- famous Eastern waters like the Susquehanna and New River, little known Midwestern streams like the Eel and Big Pine, and many places in-between. Tim experienced them all.

Tim says that besides seeing all the great places, the best part of the trip was meeting and fishing with so many local smallmouth fans. And while Tim wasn't exactly a neophyte before this huge tour, this was still a tremendous learning experience.
